Promises of God

During our recent Sunday Online Worship service, we had the opportunity to view the Summer Team’s creative efforts as they helped illustrate a few of the Promises of God.  By reading and watching the stories of the Bible, we hear firsthand testimonies of God at work in lives of the people of God.  Bible stories are the faith stories of the children of God seeing God fulfill His promises.

If we stop and reflect for a moment, we can probably recall numerous times we have failed to keep a promise. Those promises we made when we were kids to not tell our friend’s secret. Our promise was even sealed with a ‘pinky swear’.  Or the promises we made to the children in our life, “I’ll come and play the game, right after I’m done this one more thing.”  Unlike the promises of most of us, we can completely trust the promises of our heavenly Father. We can hold tight and hope fully because our God will always keep His promises .

“ When God made his promise, he gave his word. He did this so we would have good reason not to give up. Instead, we have hold of the hope set before us. This hope is set before us in God’s promise. So God made his run to take promise and gave his word. These two things can’t change. He couldn’t lie about them.“  Hebrews 6:18

God does not break promises. He keeps promises because He is good and faithful. He keeps promises because there are never circumstances beyond His control, never situations He did not foresee. He keeps promises because He is God.

The Bible is full of God’s promises!  Below are just a few of them. Take a few minutes to remind yourself of them.  Sometimes the daily play by play conversation in our head is not the truth.  Pause the dialogue happening and remind yourself of God’s truth, His promises. You might just see that He is actively keeping His promises in your life.

God will always provide a way out of temptation.

“You are tempted in the same way all other human beings are. God is faithful. He will not let you be tempted any more than you can take. But when you are tempted, God will give you a way out. Then you will be able to deal with it.”  James 4:7

 God promises to forgive you.

“But God is faithful and fair. If we confess our sins, he will forgive our sins. He will forgive every wrong thing we have done. He will make us pure.” 1 John 1:9

God promises to give you peace.

Don’t worry about anything. No matter what happens, tell God about everything. Ask and pray, and give thanks to him.  Then God’s peace will watch over your hearts and your minds. He will do this because you belong to Christ Jesus. God’s peace can never be completely understood.” Philippians 4:6-7

God promises to hear your prayer.

“ So confess your sins to one another. Pray for one another so that you might be healed. The prayer of a godly person is powerful. Things happen because of it.” James 5:16

God promises to give you wisdom.

“ If any of you needs wisdom, you should ask God for it. He will give it to you. God gives freely to everyone and doesn’t find fault." James 1:5

God promises to always be with you.

“So do not be afraid. I am with you. Do not be terrified. I am your God. I will make you strong and help you. I will hold you safe in my hands. I always do what is right. “ Isaiah 41:10

  God promises a plan.

“ We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him. He appointed them to be saved in keeping with his purpose.” Romans 8:28

 God keeps His promises.

“ So I want you to realize that the Lord your God is God. He is the faithful God. He keeps his covenant for all time to come. He keeps it with those who love him and obey his commandments. He shows them his love.” Deuteronomy 7:9

We can have absolute security in the promises of God.  You can trust in His presence and hold fast to His promises. Find comfort and peace today in His Word.
